Our Services

Heritage Technology specialises in the digital reconstruction of historic objects, buildings and landscapes. Using architectural design and 3D texturing/animation software we can deliver photo-realistic products to fit any budget or functional requirement. Our service also provides a range of presentational options:

  • On-site via display screen or interactive touchscreen
  • Web-based dissemination
  • Visitor download via PDA or mobile phone technology

Historical Reconstruction & Visualisation
Thanks to our experience within the heritage sector we feel that we can provide a more tailored approach to the needs of our clients than other commercial companies. Depending on budget, practicalities and the subject in question we can offer options to suit all circumstances.

Our portfolio includes a range of projects, from on-site visualisations at visitor attractions to academic research with educational institutions. In practice, our projects often require a combination of both approaches, and a sound knowledge of the historic environment gives an extra depth and texture to our approach.

Interactivity, Fly-throughs and Animation
In addition to still images for published material or interpretation boards, Heritage Technology also offers a range of options for animation and interaction. Utilising motion capture data and the latest physics engines, we can simulate realistic movement and interaction of objects, while moving camera paths allow the viewer to experience the subject from different perspectives.

Costs and Considerations

Please note, due to the bespoke nature of 3D visualisation it is impossible to give accurate estimations of costs. However, when considering your project please bear in mind the following points - all of which have a bearing upon the eventual costs:

  • Length of research phase (if required). Mainly applicable to reconstructive modelling of buildings/landcapes. Depending on the extent of previous research on the subject in question we may require a longer research phase to establish essential information.
  • Detail of model. We offer different levels of detail to suit the model's end purpose. For example, showing the developmental history of a parish church does not necessarily require detailed window mouldings or a realistic surrounding environment - the time spent creating these detailed elements could usefully be re-assigned to presenting the architecture via textures or animation. Conversely, an accurate recreation of a medieval church interior may require extended time to correctly model these details.
  • Detail of texturing. As above, the end purpose of the model must be carefully considered. Good texturing can create highly realistic results, but this is often unnecessary and may even detract from the end product if only a simple explanation of a particular concept is required.
  • Output quality & size. Larger, more detailed models will take longer to process and output. Presentation of the model via a display or touchscreen will require a high-resolution output, while web presentation will demand lower resolutions.

Feel free to contact us for an informal chat about the nature of your project. Any ideas on the points above will help us supply you with a detailed costing to suit your budget.

Example Costs

Example costs are outlined below for those wishing to provide estimated costs for funding proposals, etc. However, please be aware that the prices quoted below are intended purely as guides - 3D visualisations are bespoke products and the best way to establish more accurate costs is to contact us.

Animation starts from roughly £100 per second of finished animation. Animations include movies and flythroughs of buildings/landcapes, but costs may rise if motion-capture data and/or realistic physics are employed. Consider the purpose and audience of the animation - products for visitor attractions are highly dependant upon attention spans and are optimal at roughly 1-2 minutes or less.

Rendering of still scenes start from roughly £300 for untextured block models, dependant on size and detail. Photorealistic rendering adds textures and greater levels of detail, increasing costs but adding high levels of quality and realism.

All prices are subject to VAT @ 15%.
