Institute for Archaeologists website

Client: Institute for Archaeologists / Council for British Archaeology
Dates: Ongoing

Overview
Heritage Technology is currently undertaking a web re-design project for the Institute of Archaeologists (IfA), the national body representing the interests of practicing archaeologists in the UK. This project is in association with the Council for British Archaeology (CBA).

The previous IfA website, like many web resources, grew organically over time - becoming convoluted and unwieldy as additional structure and content was added. The IfA, with consultation from both the CBA and Heritage Technology, has thus drawn up a restructured, graphically-enhanced website - due for general release in May 2010.

Key Features
The following features were identified as key requirements of the project:

  • Clearer navigation and content structure
  • Enhanced graphical style
  • Dynamic news/press release system
  • Member login facility
  • Ease of maintenance for IfA staff

Due to the above requirements, the website was constructed using the Drupal content publishing software - a popular, powerful, modularised software resource that enables complex content and user management, whilst retaining a quick, simple maintenance interface (for more, see http://www.drupal.org/).

The basic graphical style and colour scheme was provided by the IfA and implemented as a web interface by Heritage Technology.
